Abstract

This paper examines nursing satisfaction with supervision groups facilitated by the psychology team within a medium secure hospital. Supervision has been recognised as an important component of a nursing role and is particularly needed in an environment where the risk to staff is high and the demands of a challenging ward environment. In this study, staff members (N=12) completed a questionnaire and semi-structured interview based on their experiences of the supervision groups. A thematic analysis was used to identify key themes to emerge from the data. The results showed that there was an overall satisfaction with the groups, however, the participants acknowledged that there were barriers to engagement and that improvements could be made. Methodological limitations and recommendations for future practice are discussed.
