Psychosis, antipsychotics and premature mortality: The elephant in the room

Abstract

Psychosis is associated with a substantially increased rate of premature mortality. Although research demonstrates that antipsychotics contribute to this, they are still recommended as the first-line of treatment for psychosis. Thus, alternative treatments are required to tackle drug-induced premature mortality.
