Acknowledging the barriers to meaningful service user involvement in recruitment, and doing it anyway

Abstract

This paper describes three models of service user involvement in interviews which we have implemented within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Learning Disability Directorate. Hurtardo et al. (2014), Townsley (1996) and others cite barriers to meaningful involvement; we describe how we have attempted to overcome these barriers. We present this to contribute to, and stimulate discussion around, how service user involvement can be truly meaningful and valued.
