Abstract
The construction industry in Yemen is associated with severe difficulties and constraints that have are common features in most developing countries. There exists a strong requirement for improved construction methodologies, management practices and legislative reform. This paper is to determine the major impediments to any intended development in the local construction industry. Data associated with the research was collected using a structured questionnaire, distributed to appropriate professionals and other stakeholders operating in Sana’a and Aden cities. Findings signified that the main barriers to development are institutional and administrative weakness, red tape and corruption, followed by the lack of infrastructure, also the ineffective law. Likewise, the most important factors that causing high construction costs are imported materials, inflation, and unstable economy and construction wastes. So, to start out any economical and technical development appropriate and authoritative strategies and policies should be implemented.
