Compulsive sexual behaviour disorder (CSBD) is now included in the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). Responding to recent calls for improved assessment, rigorous and standardized methodology, and inclusion of underrepresented and underserved populations in the field, we comprehensively validated the original (CSBD-19) and short (CSBD-7) versions of the Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder Scale and made them freely accessible in 26 languages to provide state-of-the-art assessment tools for research and clinical practice. Using data from the 43-country International Sex Survey (N = 82,243, 57% women, Mage = 32.39 years, SD = 12.52), we evaluated the psychometric properties of the CSBD-19 and CSBD-7 (e.g., using measurement invariance tests across languages, countries, genders, and sexual orientations; and developing and testing cut-off scores). Both versions of the scale demonstrated excellent validity and reliability, showed measurement invariance across different languages, countries, genders, and sexual orientations, and differentiated between individuals with low vs. high risk of experiencing CSBD. Recommendations for the use of the CSBD-19 and CSBD-7 in research and clinical settings are discussed. The findings of this study may establish high-quality, unified, and globally recognized screening tools for CSBD, facilitate the identification of CSBD in diverse populations, and may serve as a crucial building block to stimulate research into evidence-based, effective prevention and intervention strategies for CSBD that are currently missing from the literature.
