Digital technologies are contributing to a paradigm shift from conventional medicine to unprecedented molecular medicine that will transform the healthcare industry. Conventional medical approaches focus on treating symptoms and ailments for large groups of people. These approaches can elicit differences in treatment responses, adverse reactions based on population variations, and maybe incapable of treating the inherent pathophysiology of the medical conditions. Advancements in genetics and engineering are driving efforts to improve healthcare via individualized treatments through gene and cell therapies, pharmacogenetics, disease detection, and diagnostics. In this perspective, we draw attention to ways artificial intelligence can support efforts within the abovementioned sectors and help usher in a new age of personalized medicine.
