Abstract

The period from 2018 to 2021 saw a notable expansion in Sino-Russian collaboration in the field of nanotechnology. This partnership has been instrumental in enabling Russia to navigate the challenges posed by Western economic sanctions and to ensure the continued development and innovation of its high-tech industries. China has played a pivotal role in enabling the Russian Federation to circumvent EU and US technological sanctions through substantial financial investments, joint research initiatives, and strategic trade agreements, thereby strengthening Russia's nanotechnology capabilities. As a result, Putin's regime has become increasingly economically and technologically dependent on the PRC’s authorities. China's strategic investments in Russian high-tech sectors, including nanotechnology, provided Beijing with significant leverage, potentially influencing Russian policy decisions in favor of Chinese geopolitical objectives.
