TRANSFORMATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF INDUSTRY 4.0

Abstract

The article looks into key trends of higher education development analysed against the backdrop of the changing developmental paradigm and the changing goals of universities that are adapting to the Industry 4.0. An analysis of international and domestic experience of the higher education adaptation to the digital transformation context has been performed on two levels, the macro- and micro ones, as the authors proceed from the assumption that the macro-level being an external context, synergizes the factors of the international and national levels that in the context of internationalization have common system-building parameters. Aim of the article is to present concrete recommendations for universities in different areas of their development, to facilitate their effective and proactive adaptation to the Industry 4.0 context based on the undertaken comparative analysis. The research was performed using the following methods: content analysis, comparative analysis, analysis of international reports and publications, method of expert assessment, of referentometry and direct observation. The novelty is in the examination of the object of research on two levels - the macro- and micro-levels proceeding from the presupposition about the fractal character of changes generated by the digital revolution on the international/global and national level. Such approach has resulted in systemic conclusions and goals relevant for the university sector to succeed in new conditions. The results of the research can be used to underpin future research studies, pre-service and in-service study programs for different target groups within the higher education sector, as well as institutional decisions and policy-making.
