Abstract
Analysis of SUMO1 and SUMO2 knockout cells reveals unique functions for SUMO paralogues in regulating cellular morphology, PML nuclear body structure, responses to proteotoxic and genotoxic stress, and control of gene expression. Findings reveal nonredundant regulatory roles for SUMO1 and SUMO2 and a basis for more precise SUMO-targeting therapies.
