Abstract

Knockout phenotypes in Leishmania and detection of ULK4 ciliary localization in mice show that ULK4 and Fused/STK36 interact in a conserved pathway for stable assembly of motile cilia. This study describes severe structural defects in Leishmania flagella resulting from the loss of ULK4 or Fused/STK36 and shows evidence from BioID and co-immunoprecipitation for a direct interaction of Fused/STK36 with the pseudokinase ULK4.
