Abstract
Septin proteins evolved from GTPases and form cytoskeletal filaments. Other cytoskeletal NTPases (actin and tubulins) require molecular chaperones to fold. Many chaperones bind septins, but functional requirements were unknown. A combination of in vivo and in vitro analyses found roles for specific chaperones in efficient folding of yeast septins.
