Abstract

WNKs (With No Lysine [K])are soluble intracellular protein kinases that directly respond to osmotic stress through dedimerization-induced auto-phosphorylation. Assays demonstrate direct effects of osmotic pressure on autophosphorylation. SAXS (small angle x-ray scattering), SLS (static light scattering), and crystallography demonstrate a dimer to monomer transition and atomic level changes in hydration.
