Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to assess the knowledge level about evidence-based practices in central venous catheter (CVC) care of nurses working in the bone marrow transplant (BMT) units of 19 hospitals across Turkey. Between September 2021 and June 2022, an online cross-sectional study was conducted with 108 nurses working in the BMT units who met the inclusion criteria. The “Individual Information Form” and the “Central Venous Catheter Care (CVC) Knowledge Form” were used to collect the data. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics, the independent samples t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The study found that almost all (99.1%) of the nurses working in the BMT units had received CVC care training, and their knowledge level about evidence-based practices in CVC care was above average (14.250 ± 2.131). The nurses who thought their education was sufficient (p = 0.028) and who used the guidelines for CVC care had a significantly higher knowledge level (p = 0.022). The study concluded that nurses working in the BMT units should receive regular training on evidence-based practices in CVC care, and their feedback on the adequacy and content of the training should be solicited.
