Abstract
The article focuses on the «green economy» concept and on the history of the term. The text defines the main principles of the green economy in the timber industry, whose compliance would contribute to sustainable development of forestry. The analysis of current situation in the timber industry of Siberian regions shows that green economy principles are mostly flouted. Special attention is paid to ESG principles, which are implemented into sustainable development policy of private enterprises. International and Russian companies allocate money for environmental, social and corporate projects, which support fighting against climate change. The key companies of the Russian Federation are investing into reforestation and reduction in carbon footprint through the introduction of high-technology equipment and reforestation. The present article defines the need for timber enterprises of East Siberia to move towards a green economy by reducing air emissions, water resources conservation and the transition of the enterprises to zero liquid discharge production scheme in the conditions of closed cycle water circulation and reforestation.
