The Development of Discourse Competence in English Classes Through Distance Learning

Abstract

Issues related to teaching listening and speaking in English lessons as important components of discourse competence become especially relevant in the context of distance learning. The main purpose of the study was to examine the content of such online platforms as ESL Video and TubeQuizard and the ways these resources can be used at online English classes. The research conducted using the descriptive method together with the method of comparative analysis has led to the conclusion that these online resources have a number of advantages and can be successfully used in the process of distance learning in English. As a result, a number of exercises were compiled basing on the video clip taken from the ESL Video platform. The exercises are aimed at improving students’ listening and communication skills. All the given tasks are made up on the basis of generally accepted methods of working with audio texts.
