Abstract

The authors make an attempt to examine the humanitarian knowledge as a subject of interest of the global Internet audience, focusing on journalism, journalism education, journalistic work. Via rank analysis within the framework of media geographical approach the authors continue to monitor socio-political processes in the context of so-called academic capitalism, which directly affects such a problem of modern science as upholding the rights to the priority of theoretical knowledge and the transformation of specialized faculties into applied schools, higher education into a commodity. This article presents the results of the analysis of big data of Google and Yandex on topics related to the professional activities of a journalist, the prestige of journalism education and journalistic work in general, and journalistic ethics. For a more accurate interpretation of the data obtained as a result of the rank analysis, the ratings of the leading schools of journalism and mass communications in the world and the United States, as well as the educational programs of universities, were studied. The authors come to the conclusion that, in general, academic knowledge and journalism, in particular, the leading positions are still held by the traditional centers of power — the United States and Great Britain. At the same time, the desire of new regional leaders — India, China, South Africa — and some other countries of the world to raise journalism as a professional and educational field to a new qualitative level is clearly manifested, which is expressed in the growing dynamics of thematic requests of Internet users in these countries over the past 10 years.
