Abstract

Viruses are ubiquitous but largely uncharacterized members of aquatic environments that cause significant mortality in microbial communities. Recent large-scale oceanic projects have greatly advanced our understanding of viral ecology in marine environments, but those studies mostly focused on oceanic regions.
