Abstract

Despite dramatic progress in drug therapies, HIV-1 infection remains an incurable disease that affects millions of people worldwide. The virus establishes long-lasting reservoirs that are resistant to currently available drug treatments and allow the virus to rebound whenever drug therapy is interrupted.
