Abstract

Antibiotic resistance, particularly to carbapenems, is of increasing concern in Bacteroides fragilis . Carbapenem resistance in B. fragilis is most often mediated by the activation of chromosomally encoded metallo-β-lactamase cfiA by the presence of an upstream insertion sequence (IS).
