Abstract

Legionella pneumophila is commonly found in aquatic environments and resides within a wide variety of amoebal hosts. Upon aerosol transmission to humans, L. pneumophila invades and replicates with alveolar macrophages, causing pneumonia designated Legionnaires’ disease.
