ABSTRACT
Despite over a century of research into the mystery of bacterial spore dormancy and germination, a key question remains unresolved: is protein synthesis required for germination? The development of more sophisticated techniques for assessing and preventing protein synthesis has renewed interest in this long-standing question in recent years. In this issue, Korza et al. (G.
