Abstract

The emergence, reemergence, and expansion of alphaviruses (genus of the family Togaviridae ) are a serious public health and epizootic threat. Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) causes encephalitis in human and domesticated animals, with a mortality rate reaching 80% in horses.
