Abstract

Neutrophils are required for host resistance against Streptococcus pneumoniae , but their function declines with age. We previously found that CD73, an enzyme required for antimicrobial activity, is downregulated in neutrophils (also known as polymorphonuclear leukocytes [PMNs]) from aged mice.
