Abstract

ABSTRACT Here we describe the identification of endogenous Coccidioides posadasii contamination in commercial rhesus monkey kidney (RhMK) cells and the subsequent nationwide alert that reduced the risk of laboratory exposure. This extraordinary event highlights the necessity for laboratories to remain vigilant in the use of appropriate biosafety procedures, particularly when working with unknown pathogens.
