Hepatic and Extrahepatic Fascioliasis Mimicking Colon Cancer with Hepatic Metastasis

Abstract

<i>Fascioliasis hepatica</i> is a rare parasitic infection affecting the hepatobiliary system. On the imaging examination, it presents as multiple hepatic abscesses and bile duct dilatation. Extrahepatic fascioliasis of the gastrointestinal tract is a rare condition, resulting from the duodenal migration of fasciola flukes. The current case showed both hepatic and colonic masses, mimicking colon cancer with hepatic metastasis. However, diagnostic clues from multimodality approaches, especially in combination with magnetic resonance imaging, led to an accurate diagnosis of hepatic and extrahepatic fascioliasis.
