Abstract

A team of engineering students and faculty from several universities investigated the effects of the 17 August and 12 November 1999 earthquakes in Turkey, documenting the damage in reinforced concrete structures. The team focused on the damage in Düzce, Kaynaşlı, and Bolu. This article summarizes the observations and the data gathered on the spatial distribution of the damage in reinforced concrete structures with respect to the fault rupture. The data presented are of interest because they do not reveal a clear trend between damage and distance to the fault.
