Qualitative Analysis of Nurses' Perspectives on Nursing Interventions for Patients' Self-Care Needs

Abstract

This study was conducted to learn the nurses' perspective on their own roles in meeting the self-care needs of the patients in the internal medicine clinic. The study is a qualitative research and an in-depth interview lasting 40 minutes was conducted with six nurses working in the internal medicine clinic of a Training and Research Hospital in the clinic responsible nurse room. The data were recorded on a voice recorder using a personal information form and a semi-structured interview form, while the transcript and content analysis were used and then reported. Three main themes and sub-themes were found; The definitions of self-care and care perceived by nurses, views that prevent self-care, and views that support self-care. As a result of this study; In order to increase quality efficiency in patient care, correct nurse workforce planning, recording of nursing care plans in electronic environment, increasing in-service training and orientation training, adequate, effective and clinically compatible practice hours in student education, patient, which is an indicator of quality and efficiency in nursing care. It has been determined that in order to increase the satisfaction of patients and their relatives, it is necessary to eliminate the lack of knowledge of the patients and to increase the job satisfaction of nurses.
