Abstract
ABSTRACT
In the carp, exophthalmos with a corresponding increase in intercorneal distance (ICD) may be induced by thyrotrophic hormone. In the range 50-500 mU TSH the effect is dose-dependent. The same effect is obtained after the injection of the serum of patients suffering from endocrine ophthalmopathia. Diluted serum does not give rise to significant exophthalmos. If, however, the carp were pretreated with β1–24-corticotrophin, diluted serum also proved to be effective. PMS-gonadotrophin and also HCG were less effective in this respect. A synergistic effect is also obtained with L-T3, whereas L-T4 shows rather inhibitory properties. A significant inhibition is obtained with diethylstilboestrol, prednisolone and D-thyroxine.
