ABSTRACT
In anaesthetized dogs, heparin given intravenously in a dose of 100 IU/kg 10 min before an ivGTT (0.5 g/kg) inhibited glucose-stimulated insulin secretion as measured in portal and peripheral venous blood. Thus glucose assimilation is reduced. However there was a considerable antilipolytic action of the small quantity of secreted insulin as shown by the diminution of FFA concentration.
