Abstract
ABSTRACT
Goitre due to the ingestion of excess iodide is a comparatively rare disorder. About two hundred cases of sporadic iodide goitre have been reported. In two of these cases an underlying chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis was verified histologically or cytologically. This paper describes another case of iodide goitre after prolonged intake of seaweed tablets in a female with histologically verified chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. The discussion is concerned with the mechanism of development of iodide goitre and the possible interrelationship between thyroiditis and the intake of excess iodide in the patient studied.
