Abstract
ABSTRACT
The administration of 20 μg oestradiol benzoate to rats on the 4th day of pseudopregnancy caused a rise in serum luteinizing (LH) concentration on the following day. This effect of oestradiol benzoate was reduced when the animals were ovariectomized at the time of the steroid injection. The response was restored by injection of progesterone with oestradiol benzoate thus showing the importance of progesterone for the mechanisms which trigger off the release of LH.
