Abstract
ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of the aldosterone antagonist Soldactona® on the plasma concentrations of testosterone and androstenedione and the urinary excretion of 17-ketosteroids and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids. In the control samples, a diurnal variation of plasma testosterone similar to that of plasma cortisol was observed. Soldactona® caused a rapid and -marked fall in plasma testosterone and a decrease in the urinary 17-ketosteroids. No appreciable alterations could be demonstrated in the plasma androstenedione or the urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroids. It is concluded that Soldactona® causes a decreased secretion of testosterone from the testes.
