3. The temperature of the Nb crystal was determined by measuring its electrical resistance during heating. The temperature‐resistance calibration was made an optical pyrometer and corrections for the emissivity of the sample (estimated to be about 0.5) have been made. These corrections correspond to about 40 °C at a sample temperature of 800 °C, and to 160 °C at a temperature of 1900 °C.
