Abstract
In this paper, we develop a model by introducing ambient stratification in the ocean to study the surface waves generated by sub-aquatic volcanic eruptions. The developed equations with the initial and boundary conditions were linearized. The linearized equations were solved using the joint Laplace and Hankel transform Green's function method. The solutions were computed, and the surface elevation was obtained for an instantaneous Duffy source function, revealing a beating phenomenon in the stratified ocean. A clear understanding of the sub-aquatic volcanic eruption and its effect on surface waves will help avoiding large-scale damage to communities and infrastructures in coastal areas.
