Abstract
If out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) occurs, most witnesses ask the fire department for help. Emergency medical dispatchers must be aware that the patient is in cardiac arrest, which has a significant impact on the patient’s chances of resuscitation and neurological prognosis. This study calculated the recognition rate of patients in cardiac arrest among emergency medical dispatchers using data from the National Fire Agency (2022, 75.4%). To improve the ability of witnesses and emergency medical dispatchers to respond to patients with OHCA, efforts should be made to define the recognition of cardiac arrest, collect and analyze data on unrecognized reasons for cardiac arrest, improve protocols and training of emergency medical dispatchers, emphasize respiratory evaluation in cardiopulmonary resuscitation education to the public, evaluate patients using video calls, and develop and use machine learning.
