Flexible training for a modern surgical workforce

Abstract

Further to the short article on flexible training, which appeared in the Bulletin in September 2005, I am pleased to report a positive response from many trainees regarding the benefits of undertaking less than full-time training. Many stated an improvement in their work–life balance and, since many were slightly older than their peers when applying for consultant posts, they felt they had the advantage of maturity and a greater breadth of experience.
