Abstract
The hermeneutic reconstruction of individual strategies for adapting to dementia during one’s lifetime is necessary to determine which forms of support from other people are required to live successfully with this chronic disease. The biographical background is an important factor for determining specific coping strategies, and the support provided by social networks influences the use of these strategies. The results of a qualitative study (SEIN, Selbstbestimmung und Intervention = Self-Determination and Intervention; completed) show how the adaption process of dementia is determined during one’s lifetime.
