Abstract
This research aims to determine the sunscreen activity of the extract, extract lotion, subfraction, and pure compound of Scurrula ferruginea Jack Danser and to determine the physical properties of the extract lotion. S. ferruginea was extracted by the maceration method using ethanol solvent. The sunscreen activity was evaluated using the spectrophotometric method and calculated by the Sun Protection Factor (SPF). The results of elucidation structure by using GC-MS and FTIR, the pure compound was suspected as a caffeine compound. This caffeine has a good sunscreen activity with an SPF value of 21.358 ± 0.011. The results of the SPF value of the extract, extract lotion, subfractions (A-E), and subfractions (A-E) lotion was range of 32.270 ± 0.227 to 38.171 ± 0.440; 21.358 ± 0.098 to 34.665 ± 0.315; 27.383 ± 0.407 to 34.719 ± 0.162 and 23.448 ± 0.147 to 32.039 ± 0.171 at concentrations of 2%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 12%, respectively. The SPF value of the extract, extract lotion, subfraction, and pure compound are included in the ultra category. The results of physical properties of the extract lotion meet the standards set by Standard Nasional Indonesia (SNI) 1996.
