A brief history of plant mutagenesis.

Abstract

In this chapter, the history of plant mutation research and application to breeding is presented. The historical background, the important discoveries, and the major events that happened in the first half of the 20th century are described. An overview of mutation induction experiments and establishment of mutation induction techniques (physical mutagenesis, chemical mutagenesis, and mutant generation through biotechnology) is included.
