AbstractThis chapter reviews the distribution, importance and control of coconut diseases together with characteristics and production of the fruit. Coconut (Cocos nucifera) suffers from numerous diseases; some of the most severe include bud rot (caused primarily by Phytophthora palmivora) cadang-cadang (caused by the Coconut cadang-cadang viroid), Ganoderma butt rot, lethal yellowing (caused by phytoplasmas), and the nematode disease, red ring (Bursaphelenchus cocophilus).
