Abstract

In this chapter, the important role that dogs played in the lives of people is discussed. Topics include: domestication, the ancestors of the dog, the dog population, social conflicts of dog-human contact, dogs and diseases, social and health benefits of dogs in society, the use of animals in therapeutic settings and conclusion.
