Abstract

Abstract

The first part of this chapter examines destination communities with regards to type, scale, function, structure, and the extent of partnership involved. With this background, the latter part of the chapter makes an effort to place destination communities into a broad-based typology of tourism-host community relationships. It is suggested that the following four relationship scenarios may develop: win-win, win-lose, lose-win, and lose-lose.
