AbstractThis chapter discusses the advantages and limitations of domain-specific search engine technology for the development of tourism web portals. Presented as a case example is www.visiteuropeancities.info, the B2C site offered by European Cities Tourism (ECT), a pan-European association currently consisting of 90 European city tourism boards representing more than 30 European countries. Along with a comprehensive introduction to the application of web content-mining and web usage-mining techniques in domain-specific search engines, this chapter also provides detailed information on the technical outline of the system and on the first users' responses after a 7-month trial period.
