Institutional and policy implications in the Mediterranean Region.

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the forest institutions and policies at the Mediterranean level. It examines the social, economic and environmental constraints in various Mediterranean countries in terms of the: availability of information on forest resources; distribution of forestland ownership and the structure of the property; forest policy objectives; existing policy tools; and current operational forest institutions. New policy approaches to be undertaken at the regional and country level are also proposed.
