AbstractThis chapter is about the consumption practices of British tourists holidaying in Palmanova and Magaluf, Mallorca, Spain. It is based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted over a period of 8 months in 1998-99. In terms of consumption, there are three key themes to emerge from the work. One is the connection between consumption and the creation or affirmation of identity. The second relates to the way that the production of space informs patterns of consumption and vice versa. The third theme is concerned with the characteristics of the consumption practices.
