AbstractThis chapter examines the role of malnutrition and nutrient deficiencies (i.e., vitamin A, zinc, selenium and iron deficiencies) in the severity of infectious diseases. The importance of vitamin A, zinc, selenium and iron supplementations on immunity and infections are discussed. The benefits of breast feeding with regard to infection, the risk of disease transmission through breast milk, and policy implications are presented.
