Rehydration of dried systems: membranes and the nuclear genome.

Abstract
Essential components for the maintenance of cellular integrity throughout the processes of drying and rehydration are the structural organization and composition of intracellular membranes and the fidelity and conformation of the DNA in nuclear chromatin and probably also that in mitochondria and plastids. This chapter addresses what is currently known and speculated on these 2 major determining factors in cell survival under the temporal and successive conditions of changing water availability.
