Variability and population biology of Melampsora rusts on poplars.

Abstract
This chapter reviews the interspecific variability in Melampsora spp. (mainly M. larici-populina, M. allii-populina, M. medusae and M. occidentalis) on poplars, as evaluated by internal transcribed spacer sequences, and its applications in phylogenetic studies and DNA-based diagnostics; interspecific hybridization in poplar rusts; and the biology and genetic structure of M. larici-populina population.
