Abstract
This chapter describes amenity migration to the mountain area known to the Secwepemc as Skwelkwekwelt (British Columbia, Canada), and its environmental and socioeconomic impacts. The chapter gives an insight into the struggle of for cultural survival of an indigenous people, the Secwepemc, threatened by the promotion and accommodation of amenity seekers. Of particular significance is the explanation of the process by which environmental degradation is destroying a symbiotic living culture. The chapter concludes with a request for a new era of reconciliation in which the Secwepemc and non-Secwepemc can live in peaceful co-existence.
