Abstract
This chapter discusses the multidisciplinary characterization of Ganoderma from oil palm and other tropical perennial hosts, including characterization by basidioma morphology, mycelial morphology, genetic-based characterized approaches (isoenzymes, pectinases [polygalacturonases] and intracellular isoenzymes), ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer variability, localized variability in relation to disease establishment and spread mechanisms, somatic incompatibility, and mitochondrial restriction fragment length polymorphisms.
